KHAS Economics – Contemporary Debates: Prof. Dr. Şevket Pamuk

Prof. Dr. Şevket Pamuk from Boğaziçi University will be the next guest of Contemporary Debates, organized by Kadir Has University Department of Economics, with his speech “State and Economic Development: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” on November 3, 2021, at 5 pm. 

Abstract: Economists have been debating for centuries the role of the state in economic development. In recent years, economists and policymakers in developed economies have been putting greater emphasis on the critical role of the state once again. This presentation will briefly review the historical evidence on the state’s role in economic development around the world. It will then discuss the implications of the ongoing shift in the debate worldwide for the state’s position in Turkey in the years ahead.
